Ostex 136

Ostex 136 is one of the largest hostess bars in Phnom Penh. While there are plenty of these spots around, few match the sheer size of this place. It spans two full floors and is almost always packed with people, including a fair number of foreign women.

The building where Ostex 136 is located has been home to various bars over the years. It seems like it was originally used for something important, but I’m not sure of the details. Unfortunately, Khmer Architecture Tours don’t usually cover the red light district, so the history remains a bit of a mystery.

The team behind Ostex 136 also owns Jopo Bar, Ostro Bistro, Ostro Hotel, and the previously reviewed Tiger 136 nearby. They’ve clearly invested a lot in this place, and it’s paid off.

Location and Layout: Ostex 136 is situated at the corner of Street 136 and Street 5, just a block from the riverside. It’s hard to miss with its large, bright red building wrapping around the corner. The entrance is decked out with shiny gold trim, and there are big illuminated signs with the name in red, plus digital marquees that flash messages along the streets.

Inside, the bar is both spacious and elaborate. You’ll find the usual bar area, plus booth seating built into the walls, disco balls, and a raised dance platform with rails. Upstairs, there are pool tables and private karaoke rooms. It’s definitely more than just a standard bar.

Staff, Prices, and Summary: Given its size, Ostex 136 employs a lot of staff to keep things lively. The place is always bustling, with a good mix of staff and customers. There are usually at least two ladies for every customer, and the women working here tend to be young, attractive, and dressed in sexy outfits. They seem to have higher standards than some other bars in town.

Prices here are quite reasonable. A lady drink costs $3.75, which is a bit cheaper than most places. The bar fine is the standard $10. For a night with a lady, you’re looking at around $50 for a short time or up to $100 for an overnight stay, though that’s open to negotiation.

The building has housed hostess bars for a while, and Ostex 136 seems to be doing the best job of them all. With lots of ladies and fair prices, it’s always busy. I’d give it a solid three-and-a-half stars.
