Pour Hub

Pour Hub is certainly one of the more uniquely named establishments I've encountered during my years of reporting. The name alone intrigued me enough to check it out. Frankly, I’m a little surprised the place operates under such a title, considering Cambodia’s past crackdowns on anything remotely suggestive.

The fact that Pour Hub exists in Phnom Penh, where public figures have been chastised for being "too sexy" and where modesty laws were recently proposed to ban revealing clothing, is remarkable. I still recall the time when bars were prohibited from using plaid skirts as uniforms.

What’s more striking is that Pour Hub doesn’t just echo the name of a famous adult website—it even borrows the logo and color scheme. This isn't the first time a business has played with the "Hub" concept, but Pour Hub is subtler than Hong Kong’s Sandwich Hub, which openly plays on the same theme.

Located on Street 130 So what’s Pour Hub like? The name surely grabs the attention of any passerby familiar with its obvious reference. But does the venue live up to the intrigue its name generates? In some ways, yes. It’s a place where you can literally get a draft beer poured—making it a "pour hub" in that sense—but there’s much more to unpack beyond the name and beer.

Hostess bar atmosphere Pour Hub is one of the latest additions to Phnom Penh’s hostess bar scene, having opened its doors in late 2023. Its initial buzz stems largely from the controversial name, which is exactly what drew me in. But a name alone can’t sustain a bar, especially in this competitive market.

The bar took over the former location of Queen Girl Bar. While small, it feels comfortable enough inside, with a straightforward bar on the left and purple velvet seating filling the rest of the room. Sheer curtains divide the seating areas, offering a hint of privacy without obstructing the view from one end of the room to the other.

Staff, pricing, and overall impression In any hostess bar, the hostesses themselves are the key factor, but the overall vibe also plays a role. This involves a combination of the ambiance, the ladies, the service, and even the music. To be honest, nothing at Pour Hub particularly stands out.

Around a dozen women work here, most of whom are fairly average in terms of looks, though a few are notably attractive. The lineup can always change, as it's rare for women to stay long-term in this line of work. At present, the variety is sufficient to draw in customers.

As for prices, they range from typical to slightly on the higher side. Regular drinks start at $4 USD, while lady drinks are priced at $5. The barfine is $15—$5 more than what you'd typically find in other bars of this kind. It might not seem like much, but given the local standards, it’s a 50% markup that’s worth noting.

In the end, the owner of Pour Hub seems to have hit on a clever idea with the bar's name, and there’s a clear sense of enjoyment and passion in how the business is run. While it’s a fairly standard hostess bar at its core, the fun name and enthusiastic management add a unique twist.
